Mahashivratri or the great night of Lord Shiva is celebrated with zeal and fervour by Hindus all across the globe. Also known as Padmarajarathri, Mahashivratri is celebrated on the 13th night/14th day of the Maagha or Phalguna month of the Hindu calendar. The day marks the wedding of Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvati. Devotees visit temple, observe fast and chant shlokas and mantras to please the supreme god.
